1. Introduction

Gomate ("we", "our", or "us") is operated by Mikkel Soelvborg. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information when you use the Gomate mobile application ("the App").

By using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

2. Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create an account, we collect:

  • Your email address (via Apple Sign In or Google Sign In)
  • Your chosen username and display name
  • Your profile picture (if you choose to upload one)

Location Data

With your permission, we collect your approximate location to show activities near you. Location data is used solely to provide the core functionality of the App and is never sold or shared with third-party advertisers.

Activity Data

When you create or join activities, we store the activity details (title, description, date, location, and participant list) to provide the service.

Messages

Messages you send through activity group chats and direct messages are stored to deliver them to other participants. We do not read or analyse your messages for advertising purposes.

Usage Data

We may collect anonymous usage statistics (e.g. crash reports, screen views) to improve the App. This data cannot be used to identify you personally.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Provide and maintain the App
  • Show you activities near your location
  • Deliver messages between participants
  • Display your profile to other users
  • Send you important service-related notifications
  • Improve the App and fix bugs

4. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only in these limited circumstances:

  • Other users: Your username, display name, profile picture, and activity participation are visible to other users of the App.
  • Service providers: We use Amazon Web Services (AWS) to host the App and store data. AWS processes data on our behalf under strict contractual obligations.
  • Legal requirements: We may disclose your information if required by law or to protect the safety of our users.

5. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored on servers in the EU (AWS eu-central-1, Frankfurt). We use industry-standard security measures including encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest. Authentication is handled by Amazon Cognito with secure token-based access.

6. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access your personal data by viewing your profile in the App
  • Update your display name and profile picture at any time
  • Delete your account and all associated data from the Settings screen in the App
  • Withdraw consent for location access through your device settings

7. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, all your personal data, activities, and messages are permanently removed within 30 days.

8. Children's Privacy

The App is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by posting the new policy in the App or on this page. The "Last updated" date at the top indicates when the policy was last revised.
